New Rosebud Men’s Shed open and looking for members

Published on 10 April 2019

The newly established Rosebud and Districts Men’s Shed officially opened on Sunday 31 March and the group is keen for new members to help complete the fit out of their new home. Men of all ages are invited to take part – everyone is welcome to become a member and join in the fun.

Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said Council recognises the community value Men’s Sheds provide. “Through social connection, improved health and wellbeing, and benefits to the broader community, our Men’s Sheds offer essential outreach and project work to the whole Peninsula”.

Seawinds Ward Cr Frank Martin said community interest in Men’s sheds has grown significantly over the last five years.
“The Shire proudly supports and facilitates the development and operation of 11 Men’s Shed groups, which make up the Mornington Peninsula Men’s Shed Network”.

Seawinds Ward Cr Simon Brooks said “Men’s Sheds provide a welcoming place to share knowledge; make or repair items and develop new skills in areas such as wood work, metal work, photography, computers and much more”.

Seawinds Ward Cr Antonella Celi said “the Rosebud and District Men’s Shed is a welcome addition to the programs and services offered at the Seawinds Hub. This inclusive space is available to community members across all ages to come together and enjoy social interaction while getting involved in some handy work to help complete projects at the shed”.

The Rosebud and Districts Men’s Shed project was undertaken by the community as a Community Capital Infrastructure build, supported by the Shire with lease of the land, $90,000 toward the shed build, retaining wall, gravel path, shower fit out and hot water system, and support from Shire officers.

The State Government also contributed $60,000 through the Department of Health and Human Services Men’s Shed Fund; Federal Government support with $7,000 provided through the National Shed Development Programme and $3,000 provided through the Community Development Grants Programme.

If you have some spare time and would like to lend a hand, the group would love to hear from you, contact Jack Carter  (president) on 0413 758 308 or email Rosebud and Districts Men’s Shed
